Classes

Archery has returned for 2008 with the addition of a 3D archery range. There is NO Lifeguard at Bocce!

Archery -
Students will use proper archery technique to shoot at targets. Students will use frequency tables to find total score, percentage of shots, and create a bar graph.

   

Bird Boxes -
Students will work with a Game Commissioner to construct a bird boxes which will be placed throughout the state.

 

Boating -
Students will be taught safety procedures regarding boating and will travel the lake with a partner. All students are required to wear safety jackets during this activity.

 

Bocce-
Students will be taught safety issues regarding bocce. All students are required to wear safety jackets during this activity. There is NO lifeguard at Bocce!

Climbing Wall -
Students will be harnessed to a rope and will climb a 47 foot wall. The climbing wall is supervised by Camp Soles employees and teachers.

     

Campfire Cooking & Singing  -
Students will learn and sing various campfire songs. Students will cook various snacks at the campfire. Students are supervised and instructed while cooking.
 

 

Fishing -
Students will use proper fishing technique to catch and release the fish in the Camp Soles Lake. Students will identify the species and measure and record the length of each fish.

   

Impairment -
Students will be instructed by officers from the Lower Burrell Police Department on issues such as drugs and alcohol and the devastating effects they can have on a person’s system. Students are accompanied by an officer while driving a golf cart through a course. The students must wear impairment goggles while driving in order to duplicate hazardous scenarios.

Orienteering -
Students will utilize a compass in order to follow directions around the lake. As they follow the path, they will need to stop at various checkpoints. The students are timed and checked for accuracy.

Photography -
Students will be instructed in photography techniques while hiking around the campgrounds for approximately one mile.

     

Rocketry -
Students will work with the sponsor of Burrell’s Rocketry Club to construct rockets. Students will build, decorate, and launch their rockets.

     

Ropes Course -
Students will build teamwork skills in order to navigate through several low ropes courses which have varying degrees of difficulty.

     

Stream Studies -
Students will evaluate the quality of the Camp Soles stream habitat. Stream quality will be determined by performing a series of water tests and by assessing the populations of aquatic organisms.

   

Zip Line -
Students will ride the zip line above a path in the woods. Students are harnessed to the zip line by Camp Soles professionals.
